catalyst toriously ay may catalytic ompartcolloidal building blocks. [ 1–6 ] In the last decade, sev entifi c advances led to the preparation of a diverse anisotropic particles including particles with differen patchy particles, and compartmentalized particles emerging bulk of research has been focused on the tion of multicompartmentalized polymer microand n ticles. [ 6–11 ] Compared to particles with anisotropic dis of surface patches, multicompartmentalized partic have several additional properties, such as anisotrop dation or spatially controlled swelling/deswelling w same particle. [ 6–8 , 12 , 13 ] Some of the potentially most p applications may involve anisotropic catalysts that ca spatially separated chemical reactions. [ 12 ] As desc Crossley et al., Janus catalysts could control chemi tions at the interface of oil and water, which enhances activity relative to homogenous catalysts, while fa simple catalyst recovery. Compartmentalized photoreactions within compositionally anisotropic Janus microstructures.

We demonstrate spatially controlled photoreactions within bicompartmental microparticles and microfibers. Selective photoreactions are achieved by anisotropic incorporation of photocrosslinkable poly(vinyl cinnamate) in one compartment of either colloids or microfibers. Prior to photoreaction, bicompartmental particles, and fibers were prepared by EHD co-jetting of two compositionally distinct ...

Spatially controlled chemistry using remotely guided nanoliter scale containers.

In this communication we describe a new chemical encapsulation and release platform using 3D microfabricated nanoliter scale containers with controlled porosity. The containers can be fabricated of magnetic materials that allow them to be remotely guided using magnetic fields. The favorable attributes of the containers that include a versatile highly parallel fabrication process, precisely engi...

Chemistry with spatial control using particles and streams().

Spatial control of chemical reactions, with micro- and nanometer scale resolution, has important consequences for one pot synthesis, engineering complex reactions, developmental biology, cellular biochemistry and emergent behavior. We review synthetic methods to engineer this spatial control using chemical diffusion from spherical particles, shells and polyhedra. We discuss systems that enable ...

Exact solution for anisotropic diffusion-controlled reactions with partially reflecting conditions.

We investigate a generalization of the model of Solc and Stockmayer to describe the diffusion-controlled reactions between chemically anisotropic reactants taking into account the partially reflecting conditions on two parts of the reaction surface. The exact solution of the relevant mixed boundary-value problem was found for different ratios of the intrinsic rate constants. The results obtaine...

Anisotropic particles templated by Janus emulsion.

Anisotropic particles, with morphology from crescent to moon shape and size from micrometer to nanometer scale, are fabricated in batch scale with Janus emulsion as template. The strategy is also useful in the synthesis of Janus particles with chemically distinct hemispheres.
